Many of the people who lived in the town worked as government officials running the town and the local province.

 

There were many craftsmen in a Roman town, such as bakers, carpenters, blacksmiths, leather workers, potters, masons, builders. Some of these craftspeople would work in a workshop behind a shop which opened onto a street, and they would often live above the shop.

 

In the countryside, most of the people worked on farms.
